5 chic OUTFITS TO LOVE IN THE HAMPTONS ALL SUMMER LONG

I know, I often wonder too… What to Wear in The Hamptons. Carrie Bradshaw has it figured out. Kate Middleton has it figured out. Rachel Zoe owns it. So do the locals. Here, I have outlined just for you, a guide on exactly that: What to Wear in The Hamptons.

New York’s summertime playground, the Hamptons, are a destination for weekenders looking to chill out from the city’s daily grind and slip into relaxation mode. For those lucky enough to score a Hampton house, the summer is filled with some of the world’s most gorgeous beaches, old maritime charm, windmills galore, and fresh produce for those day-to-night barbecues. Fine dining, nightclubs, art and antiques offer more than beach vibes, making the Hamptons a culturally rich relaxation experience. As such, you’ll need to dress accordingly, catching the nuanced styles of each part of the island. But, the question remains: What to wear in The Hamptons?

Summer in the Hamptons

I love The Hamptons. I love everything about it out there at the posh far east end of New York. If you haven’t been to The Hamptons, I highly recommend it! It’s gorgeous, essentially undeveloped, and super Instagram-worthy. From the freshest foods to cutest sun-washed homes framed in hydrangeas, it’s like eye candy everywhere. Plus, there are great shops, super cute cottages, and cool places to wine and dine.

The Hamptons is one beach town that you will not find a boardwalk and a ferris wheel, though you will see many of the iconic windmills, for which The Hamptons are known. And, anyone who’s anyone wouldn’t be caught dead in socks with sandals walking through any Hamptons Village. Dressing Hampton chic is not an easy feat and one might even think that the Hamptons may have a secret dress code to enter. Well, they do…. sorta.

The Hamptons summer dress code is known as Hamptons Style. Packing for The Hamptons can be tricky because you’ll want pieces that you can wear on the beach or going out. And, don’t forget what to wear to a Hamptons party, brunch by a windmill in Amagansett, and shopping in East Hampton! So, before you go and ask me,

“What to wear in The Hamptons?”

Know this… The Hamptons are some of the trendiest seaside communities to visit, requiring a fashionable packing list to match. Whether you have a shared house or are heading out East for the weekend, I’ve created a packing guide for a stylish weekend in The Hamptons. Before you jump on the Hampton Jitney, follow my guide on what to wear in The Hamptons.

Also known as NYC’s backyard, The Hamptons are a New Yorker favorite to visit all summer and into early fall. From beach excursions to evening concerts to clam bakes, there’s something for everyone. Relax and recharge or plan for a nonstop, jam-packed few days of fun. But, do it in Hamptons Style (wink). So let’s finally talkl about What to wear in The Hamptons.

The Hamptons Clothing Style

Style in The Hamptons is all about grace, and wealth, whether you have the bank account to back it up or not. Opt for sleek, timeless pieces like stripes, polka dots, linens, and cottons when putting together your Hamptons clothes.

Ready? Let’s get started.

1. Caftans

Tory Burch Caftan, Chloe Shoes, Stella McCartney Glasses, Guerlain Fragrance, Guerlain Lipstick, David Aubrey Jewelry

What is a caftan? I am so glad you asked. Caftan dresses have made their way from India to the metropolis of New York to the beaches of The Hamptons all the way to Montauk and back. They’re comfortable, they’re easy to style, they break all the rules of “flattering,” and you always look like a queen when you wear one: Plus size caftans are a blessing to us all when you leave the East End.

2. Bright Florals

Melissa Odabash Dress, Celine Aviators, Jimmy Choo Tote, Ancient Greek Sandals, Nars Orgasm Cheek Palette, Nars Afterglow lip balm, Anita Ko earrings, Akola bangle set

I am absolutely obsessed with Kate Middleton’s summer style, including every one of her breezy, A-line floral frocks. So if Kate were to visit The Hamptons, her style would fit right in. No doubt. When it comes to what to pack for The Hamptons, you want to think beach to cocktails.

3. Swim & Cover

Your time in The Hamptons will likely include trips to the beach. Shopping for swimsuits is kind of the worst. It doesn’t matter whether you’re short, skinny, curvy, athletic, or what have you—chances are, you’ve experienced some kind of anxiety before about buying bathing suits. This is why I love pretty coverups. They hide all the stuff you want to hide and they’re always chic.

4. Little White Dress (LWD)

The official season of white kicks off after Memorial Day, giving you a chance to showcase white hot looks. The key to wearing white is to keep your look minimalist, but do don a splash of color with your accessories. Don’t be afraid to go head-to-toe in white; that look is totally chic. Do make sure your white is so fresh and so clean.

5. Hamptons CLassic

In the 40+ years that I have been visiting The Hamptons, not much has changed, not even the style. Summer colors that are cool and breezy are always on spot. Day looks are usually casually chic.

These are my favorite Hamptons Looks that are easy to recreate.

Remember I said that The Hamptons is full of eye-candy and totally Instagram-worthy? Well, get pictures of yourself and your family in your hot new Hamptons clothes. Hire a great photographer, or do it yourself. I asked my good friend Sue Barr of Sue Barr Photo if she had any pointers for us on getting great shots at the East End. Here’s what she said, “If taking pics at the beach, early morning is best because the light is clean and bright and if there is a bit of fog it creates a beautiful composition!!!  Plus, the beach is empty.”

I hope to see you out and about in The Hamptons this summer!
